Doitsu
Doitsu koi are koi with German carp influence that produces scaleless or mirror-scaled skin. Doitsu is not a single color variety; it can appear across many varieties, including Kohaku, Sanke, Showa, Shusui, and metallic groups. Some Doitsu koi have a neat row of large scales along the dorsal line, some have scales near the lateral line, and some are nearly leather-skinned. The smooth skin makes color blocks look bold and easy to read.
Keepers often choose Doitsu koi for sharp pattern edges and a different texture in the pond, but the same smooth skin can make scars, uneven scales, or small injuries more visible. Selection should consider body shape, symmetry of mirror scales, clean skin, and whether the variety pattern still makes sense without a full scale field. Doitsu koi need ordinary koi care, including gentle netting, good water quality, and quarantine, with extra caution around abrasive pond edges or rough handling.
