Goshiki
Goshiki means five-colored koi and usually describes a fish combining a Kohaku-like red pattern with a darker reticulated overlay influenced by Asagi-type ancestry. Modern Goshiki may show white skin, red hi, blue-gray or black netting, and varying degrees of dark background. Some lines look bright and crisp, while older-style fish can appear deeper and moodier. The variety is valued for the tension between clean red pattern and the shaded mesh across the body.
Selecting Goshiki takes patience because the dark reticulation often changes with age, temperature, and lineage. A young fish that looks pale may deepen, while one that is already heavy can become too dark for some tastes. Pond owners should focus on stable water, moderate growth, and a body that will carry the pattern well. Breeders and buyers often ask about the line because family history gives better clues than a single snapshot of juvenile color.
