Red
Variety
A red guppy is selected for red coloration in the fins, body, or both, ranging from red-tailed strains to full red show lines. Strong red can be built on different genetic backgrounds, including albino, gray, or blond bases, and the final look may depend on age and sex. Mature males usually show the most intense color, while females may carry the line more subtly.
Red guppies need normal fancy-guppy care, but color quality improves when fish are not crowded, chilled, or kept in poor water. Diet can support expression, though genetics set the real ceiling. Breeders select for red coverage, body strength, fertility, and clean finnage, since intense color alone can hide weak structure. Buyers should compare fish under steady light and avoid males with frayed tails or thin bodies.
