Delta
A delta guppy is defined mainly by tail shape: the caudal fin opens into a broad triangle, like the Greek letter delta. Delta tails can carry many colors and patterns, from solid blue or red to mosaic, snakeskin, and half-black combinations. In show breeding, the tail should spread cleanly without collapsing, while the body remains strong enough to carry the large fin.
Delta guppies need aquariums that protect finnage. Gentle filtration, open swimming room, and peaceful tankmates help prevent torn tails, especially in mature males. Breeders select not only for spread but also for symmetry, dorsal balance, and fertility, because very large fins can become a burden if the fish loses vigor. Buyers should watch how the fish swims, since a beautiful tail should not leave the guppy struggling.
