Teddy
The Teddy guinea pig is a short-coated breed with upright, dense hair that gives the body a compact, plush outline. It is often compared with the Rex, but Teddy and Rex coats come from different genetic backgrounds and are separated by many cavy standards. Teddies may appear in a wide range of colors and markings, while the breed's recognizable feature remains the resilient coat and rounded expression.
Teddy guinea pigs are popular with owners who want a textured coat without long-hair grooming. The coat should still be checked for debris and skin irritation, and some Teddies need extra ear attention because wax can build up in deeper ear folds. Breeders evaluate coat lift, even texture, body type, and friendly handling, since the breed is valued as both a show cavy and a practical companion animal.
