Royal Purple
Royal purple guinea fowl are a domestic color variety of helmeted guinea fowl with a darker, purplish body tone and reduced or less obvious spotting compared with pearl birds. The color can look deep violet, slate, or dark purple depending on light and line. Royal purple birds are still Numida meleagris, so their body shape, flock behavior, loud calls, and foraging habits are those of ordinary farm guineas.
Keepers often add royal purple guineas for visual variety in a working flock. They need careful brooding, gradual coop training, and predator-secure housing, especially before they learn where to roost. Breeders should pair like with like when trying to maintain the color, while also selecting for fertility and strong keets. On farms, royal purple guineas can be useful alarm birds and insect foragers, but their roaming and noise mean they are better suited to acreage than tight suburban settings.
