Pearl
Pearl guinea fowl are the classic domestic helmeted guinea fowl color, with dark purplish-gray plumage covered in small white spots. This is the variety many people picture when they think of farm guineas: alert, upright birds that move in groups, call loudly, and spend much of the day foraging. Pearl is a color variety within Numida meleagris, not a separate breed with different basic care needs.
Pearl guineas are kept for insect control, alarm behavior, eggs, meat, and hardy farm presence. They require warm brooding as keets, a secure coop or roosting routine, and protection from predators before being trusted on range. Breeders can maintain pearl color fairly predictably by avoiding uncontrolled mixing with lavender, white, or purple varieties. Even so, the best farm birds are selected for vigor, survival, and flock sense as much as for clean spotting.
