Roman
The Roman goose is an old Mediterranean domestic goose type, commonly associated with Italy and with compact white farm geese kept around towns, villas, and small holdings. Many people recognize the tufted Roman form, where a small crest or tuft appears on the head, although not every bird described as Roman is managed to the same exhibition standard. The breed is generally lighter than giant meat geese and has a neat, alert look rather than a heavy commercial outline.
Roman geese are often kept for heritage interest, eggs, table goslings, and ornamental presence in manageable flocks. Their smaller size can make housing and handling easier, but they still need pasture, bathing water, secure fencing, and protection during nesting. Breeders should pay attention to vigor and skull soundness when working with tufted lines, since ornamental head traits should never outrank healthy feeding, vision, fertility, and normal movement.
