Sebastopol
The Sebastopol goose is an ornamental domestic goose famous for long, curling feathers that give the body a loose, ruffled appearance. The breed is associated with southeastern Europe and the Black Sea region, and it has become a recognizable exhibition goose in white and several other domestic colors. Its feathering is the central trait: beautiful when clean and dry, but less weather-shedding than the tight plumage of ordinary farm geese.
Sebastopols need more shelter-minded care than many utility geese. Mud, prolonged rain, and rough housing can damage their feathers, so keepers should provide clean bedding, safe bathing water, and protection from aggressive flockmates. Breeding should favor strong bodies, fertility, and feather quality without losing vigor. They can graze and behave like other domestic geese, but they are usually chosen for exhibition, estate flocks, and specialty breeding rather than maximum meat production.
