Rhenish Goose
The Rhenish goose is a German domestic goose associated with the Rhine region and is commonly encountered as a white, medium-sized production bird. It is closely linked in many discussions with Rhineland laying geese, reflecting a regional emphasis on reliable egg production as well as meat. The type is plainer and more workmanlike than curly-feathered or highly marked geese, with value coming from fertility, seasonal laying, and a manageable body size for farm flocks.
Rhenish geese suit keepers who want a practical heritage goose that can graze, raise goslings, and fit into mixed poultry systems without the extreme size of the heaviest breeds. Breeding choices should favor sound legs, good fertility, and steady spring laying over color novelty. They still require the usual waterfowl infrastructure: fenced pasture, bathing water, dry bedding, and protection from predators, especially while females are nesting or brooding.
