Wakin
The Wakin is a Japanese goldfish variety with a long, hardy body and a double tail. It sits between common pond goldfish and deeper-bodied fancy varieties: active and durable, yet more ornamental than a single-tailed feeder or comet. Wakin are often red, white, or red and white, though other colors occur, and they are best appreciated from above in ponds or large tubs.
Wakin care is closer to pond goldfish care than to delicate fancy goldfish care. They need generous water volume, strong filtration, seasonal temperature stability, and enough space to swim. They usually compete well for food, so they should not be mixed casually with slow or fragile varieties. Breeders select for a clean double tail, balanced body, strong swimming, and bright pattern, while owners should avoid overcrowding because active goldfish quickly burden water quality.
