Bubble Eye
The bubble eye is one of the most delicate fancy goldfish varieties, recognized by the large fluid-filled sacs that grow beneath and beside its eyes. It has an egg-shaped, usually dorsal-less body and a divided tail, with colors ranging from metallic red or white to calico, black, chocolate, and matte or nacreous patterns. Developed in China from ornamental Carassius auratus lines, it is bred for a particular silhouette rather than speed or pond hardiness.
Bubble eyes need a gentle aquarium arranged around their anatomy. Strong current, narrow ornaments, sharp plant stems, coarse nets, and exposed filter intakes can rupture the sacs or scrape the eyes. They are slow feeders, so tankmates should be similarly mild fancy goldfish, not comets or common goldfish. Clean, well-filtered water matters because damaged sacs can become infected. Breeding quality fish requires attention to equal bubble size, straight backs, paired fins, and a tail that carries the body without tipping the fish forward.
