Erbi Txakur

Erbi Txakur is a Basque name often understood as rabbit dog, used for a hunting dog type rather than a widely known international breed. The label points to dogs selected for finding and pursuing rabbits in Basque country or nearby rural settings. Depending on the local line, an Erbi Txakur may show hound, terrier, or mixed village-dog influence, with function carrying more weight than a polished show appearance.

Anyone keeping or cataloging an Erbi Txakur should treat the name as a working or regional identity unless a specific registry standard is provided. The important questions are nose, voice, stamina, biddability, prey drive, and how the dog behaves around people and other animals. These dogs need secure containment and honest outlets for hunting instincts. Breeders should document parentage and working use so the label remains tied to practical rabbit-dog ability rather than becoming a vague rare-breed claim.
