Crested Gecko

Crested Gecko

Correlophus ciliatus

The Crested Gecko (Correlophus ciliatus) is a fascinating and unique arboreal lizard native to the tropical rainforests of New Caledonia. Recognized for its signature crests running from over each eye to the tail, this species exhibits a range of colors and patterns, including shades of orange, red, and brown, often with striking patterns or spots. These geckos are primarily nocturnal, using their specialized toe pads and prehensile tails to climb and navigate through dense foliage with ease.

Remarkably, Crested Geckos were considered extinct until their rediscovery in 1994, which has since led to a surge in popularity as exotic pets due to their docile nature and ease of care. They thrive in humid environments, favoring temperatures between 72 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Unlike many other reptiles, they do not require live food exclusively; a balanced diet of commercially available gecko food supplemented with occasional fruit can suffice. Known for their gentle disposition and expressive faces, Crested Geckos make captivating companions and continue to intrigue herpetologists and reptile enthusiasts alike.
