Okeetee

Locality

Okeetee corn snakes are a line-bred, locality-associated form of Pantherophis guttatus named for the Okeetee area of South Carolina, especially the Okeetee Hunt Club region that produced strongly patterned wild corn snakes. The classic look has a saturated orange ground color, deep red saddle blotches, and unusually broad black borders. Many captive snakes sold as Okeetee are selected for the look rather than proven locality descendants, and some lines called extreme Okeetee push the black borders and color contrast even further.

Their husbandry is ordinary corn snake husbandry: secure housing, dry clean bedding with a humid shed option, hides, a safe heat source, and a mouse-based diet. The main management question is provenance. If someone wants an Okeetee for breeding, parent photos and lineage information help separate true locality-style projects from any bright normal with thick borders. Pairing Okeetee-type animals to unrelated morphs can produce healthy pets, but it may dilute the bold border traits that make the line recognizable.

Corn Snake Care: Setup, Heat, Feeding, and Handling

A corn snake asks for four things and is unforgiving about exactly one of them. It needs a big enough box, a warm end and a cool end, a meal every week or two, and a lid that actually latches. Get the first three roughly right and you have an animal that will live with […]
