Hypo
A hypo boa constrictor is a hypomelanistic boa, meaning it shows reduced dark pigment compared with a normal or wild type animal. Many hypos have cleaner saddles, brighter background color, and less black speckling, though the look can vary by line. The term is closely tied to the well-known Salmon hypo influence in boa breeding, and hypo has become a foundation morph for sunglow, ghost, moonglow, and many other combination projects.
For keepers, hypo does not change the basic needs of a boa constrictor. The snake still requires careful enclosure security, stable temperatures, and feeding that avoids pushing growth too quickly. Breeders value hypo because it can brighten other morphs, but line quality and documentation matter. A clear record of whether an animal is visual hypo, possible super hypo, or part of a combination helps prevent confusion when planning litters or comparing animals from different breeding programs.
