Timneh

The Timneh African Grey Parrot (Psittacus timneh) is a distinctive and charming subspecies of the African Grey, renowned for its intelligence and endearing personality. Native to the forests of West Africa, from Guinea to Liberia, the Timneh is slightly smaller than its more famous counterpart, the Congo African Grey. This subspecies typically measures about 9 to 11 inches in length, featuring a darker, charcoal-grey plumage with a distinct maroon or horn-colored tail instead of the bright red tail seen in Congos. Their robust beak displays a unique pinkish-colored upper mandible.

Timnehs are celebrated for their adaptability, affectionate nature, and impressive mimicry abilities, making them popular companion parrots. Known for their remarkable vocal prowess, these parrots can amass an extensive vocabulary and readily imitate sounds, providing endless entertainment. Timnehs are generally more easygoing and less prone to behavioral problems compared to some other parrot breeds, making them ideal pets for those seeking a parrot with personality and trainability. With proper care, including a stimulating environment, social interaction, and a balanced diet, these charismatic birds can live up to 50 years, forging a lasting bond with their human companions.
