Warner Beef Genetics

Warner Beef Genetics raises registered Gelbvieh and Balancer cattle outside of Arapahoe, Nebraska, in the Republican River valley of southwest Nebraska, roughly an hour south of Kearney. The operation is a multi-generational family ranch run by Dan and Kate Warner alongside brothers Darren and Monte Warner and their families.

The herd traces its Gelbvieh roots to the mid-1980s, when the family began introducing the breed into a commercial Angus and Hereford cow herd. Over time, the program shifted steadily toward registered Gelbvieh and Balancer cattle, and today the ranch runs well over 1,500 head of commercial and registered cows. Dan Warner has served on the American Gelbvieh Association board, including as vice president of the executive committee and as breed improvement committee chair. The operation makes heavy use of embryo transfer and artificial insemination to multiply proven cow families and expand sire groups, with commercial cows serving as the recipient herd. Bulls like Frontrunner, the most widely used bull in the Gelbvieh breed in the 2023 calf crop, came out of this program.

Selection centers on structural soundness, even temperament, and pairing like to like rather than chasing extreme or compensatory matings. Both seedstock and commercial cattle are developed under the same practical conditions most customers use, grazing native pastures in summer and wintering on crop residues. Warner Beef Genetics has also shown at the National Western Stock Show in Denver for more than two decades, using the event as a direct measure of how their genetics stack up across the industry.
