The 88 Ranch

The 88 Ranch has been raising gelbvieh seedstock cattle in Orchard, Nebraska, since 1988, when Craig and Valerie Livingston founded the operation on a shared goal of producing quality purebred livestock. Orchard sits in northeast Nebraska's Antelope County, roughly 60 miles southwest of Norfolk.

The breed selection was deliberate from the start. The Livingstons researched their options using MARC (Meat Animal Research Center) data before settling on gelbvieh and Angus as the foundation of their program. That data-driven approach has carried forward across decades of seedstock development.

The ranch produces gelbvieh and Balancer bulls and females, drawing on A.I. sires that include Sitz Domain, Yon Flagship, SAV Final Answer, and Basin Payweight — sires selected with an eye toward calving ease, growth, and overall cattle quality. The program has earned national recognition for its cowherd, ranking 12th in the nation for owners and breeders of Dams of Merit and Dams of Distinction in 2023.
