Sunbonnet Farm

Sunbonnet Farm raises Clun forest sheep on the slopes of Mauna Kea in Paauilo, on Hawaii's Big Island — one of the few sources for Clun forest sheep in Hawaii. The farm is a multigenerational family operation run by the Wheeler-Gerrish family, with Leila Gerrish among those who manage the day-to-day work.

The flock numbers around 28 ewes and 5 rams, and includes approximately 16 purebred registered Clun forest, among them four imported registered rams. The remaining animals are Clun forest crossed with Katahdin. Wool from the flock is processed and used on-farm, with handmade woolens also produced from the fleeces — a reflection of how fully integrated the sheep program is into the broader farm operation.

Sunbonnet Farm also raises Jersey-Brown Swiss cross dairy cattle, making it a working mixed-livestock farm rather than a single-species operation. Buyers looking for registered Clun forest sheep in Hawaii will find this one of the very few programs raising the breed in the state.
