Stuart Farm in Gerald, Missouri has been raising American Milking Devon cattle since its founding by Serena and Fred Stuart in the spring of 2012. The farm sits on 7 acres adjacent to Fred's family's 180-acre property, about an hour southwest of St. Louis in the Meramec River region of Franklin County.
The Devons are raised 100% grass-fed and grass-finished, rotating through a mix of pastures, bottomlands, and native grasslands. Calves are trained in oxen commands from an early age, making the herd notably easy to handle. Husbandry across the farm follows a no-unnecessary-antibiotics approach, with daily chore routines used to observe animal health and welfare. Soil care is treated as equally important to animal care, with rotational grazing managed to benefit both.
