Shawn Northway

Shawn Northway breeds Percherons in Rochester, MN, in southeastern Minnesota near Minneapolis.

Northway has focused on the Percheron breed for more than 15 years and holds active membership in the Percheron Horse Association of America, following breed standards and bloodline records. Each horse undergoes routine veterinary wellness exams and farrier visits, with genetic screening for common draft-horse health concerns.

Foals are raised in open pastures and introduced early to daily handling, aiming for calm temperaments and reliable manners. The stable is family owned, reflecting a long tradition of draft breeding on gently rolling land. Feed is balanced with locally milled grains and hay, tailored to each horse’s growth stage and workload. Every year, foals join group turnout so they learn herd dynamics before moving into individual training stables. Several horses have gone on to light draft work in community events and therapy programs, illustrating the sturdy versatility of the breed.
