Round House Farm

Round House Farm, run by John and Sandra Coward, raises registered Katahdin sheep in Speedwell, Tennessee, near Cumberland Gap National Park and roughly an hour north of Knoxville. Their pasture-based operation has been producing Katahdin sheep for sale in Tennessee for close to a decade, with a focus on growth, maternal traits, and animals that can thrive on minimal grain.

The farm is a member of Katahdin Hair Sheep International (KHSI) and an active reporting member of the National Sheep Improvement Program (NSIP), using estimated breeding values alongside visual evaluation when selecting replacement stock. The flock undergoes regular biosecurity testing for OPP, CL, Johne's, and codon status, and rotational grazing is used to help manage parasite pressure.

Ram lambs offered as breeding stock are drawn from only the top 10 to 15 percent of each lamb crop, selected for growth, structural correctness, and conformation. Codon status is verified through laboratory testing before rams are made available. The Cowards also mentor new producers who are getting started with Katahdins, and their use of multiple herd sires means starter flocks can be assembled from their genetics.
