Robert C. Matthews raises Limousin cattle at Highland Stock Farms in Bragg Creek, Alberta, situated about 65 kilometres west of Calgary in the foothills along Highway 22.

The Matthews name has been tied to this land for generations. What began as a purebred Angus operation gradually expanded when Rob joined the family farm and steered Highland Stock Farms toward becoming one of Canada's early adopters of Limousin genetics. The farm was among the first in Canada to import Limousin cattle, and Rob was an early proponent of introducing polled and black genetics into the breed. Highland Stock Farms was also a pioneer in embryo transfer technology within the Limousin sector, with the first Limousin embryo calf born on the property in 1973.

The program produces both percentage and purebred Limousin cattle, along with Angus, with a consistent focus on bulls suited to commercial producers. Selection priorities center on homozygous polled genetics, ease of calving, and frame and muscle — traits shaped directly by feedback from commercial buyers across Western Canada and beyond. Rob Matthews received the Don Matthews Memorial Award from the Canadian Beef Breeds Council in 2018 in recognition of his contributions to the purebred beef cattle industry.
