Lucy Heyman

Lucy Heyman has been breeding Bedlington terriers in Spring, Texas under the Carillon name since 1981, making her program one of the longest-running of its kind in the Houston area. She also breeds wire fox terriers, holding membership in both the Bedlington Terrier Club of America and the American Fox Terrier Club.

An AKC Platinum Breeder of Merit and AKC Delegate representing the Bedlington Terrier Club of America, Heyman has completed AKC title requirements on more than 165 Bedlington terriers, along with Lakeland terriers and both wire and smooth fox terriers, the majority of them home-bred. Her Carillon foundation line traces back to a single puppy bitch whose descendants now number nearly 700 champions, and she counts eight all-time top producers among her dogs, including the top-producing Bedlington terrier dam of all time.

Health advocacy has been a defining thread through Carillon's decades of work. When copper toxicosis threatened a large portion of the Bedlington terrier breed, Heyman gathered blood samples and pedigree data to support the university researchers who ultimately identified the genetic marker linked to the disease. She has served on the President's Council of the AKC Canine Health Foundation since the organization's founding in 1995 and chairs the Bedlington Terrier Wellness and Rescue Association, a registered nonprofit. She has also served six terms as Corresponding Secretary of the Bedlington Terrier Club of America and has been active in Bedlington terrier rescue since 1988.
