Kimani Rhodesian Ridgebacks
Kimani Rhodesian Ridgebacks has been producing Rhodesian ridgebacks in Chester, New Jersey, about 40 miles west of New York City, since 1963 — one of the longest-running ridgeback programs in the United States. The kennel is operated by Alicia Hanna, whose involvement with the breed spans more than six decades and includes roles as an AKC judge, past president of the Rhodesian Ridgeback Club of the United States, and a member of the standards committee that authored the first U.S. breed standard revision.
Health testing has been a cornerstone of the program from its earliest days. A Kimani dog was among the first fifty dogs ever screened by the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals when OFA testing began in the 1960s, and OFA screening has remained central to the kennel's breeding decisions ever since.
The show record behind this Rhodesian ridgeback breeder in New Jersey is extensive: more than 500 AKC champions produced, 13 National Specialty Bests in Show, and the 2012 AKC Hound Group Breeder of the Year award. Kimani also earned the RRCUS Breeder of the Year title in 2010. The program's emphasis on structure, soundness, and correct temperament is reflected in dogs that have competed successfully at the highest levels of the sport across multiple generations.
