James Criger

James Criger, Percheron horses, Springfield, MO, is based in southwestern Missouri’s Ozark region near Branson. He started breeding Percheron horses in 2008 and registers his foals with the American Percheron Horse Association while maintaining routine health exams, vaccinations, and hoof care overseen by a local veterinarian.

Each animal enjoys seasonal pasture rotation, a high-forage diet supplemented with trace minerals, and daily grooming sessions to encourage trust. Foals are introduced to lead work early and live in mixed-age groups to promote social skills and confidence. Several of his yearlings have earned ribbons at Missouri state agricultural fairs and draft horse demonstrations.

Clients appreciate his open-door visits and informal farm tours that showcase transparent husbandry practices. His broodmares are chosen for solid conformation and a steady temperament, and their feeding is managed to support consistent growth without abrupt weight changes. Every horse receives biannual dental exams and farrier visits at six- to eight-week intervals to maintain balanced hooves and overall soundness.
