Howling Oaks Normandes
Howling Oaks Normandes raises Normande cattle in Arpin, Wisconsin, a rural community in Wood County about an hour west of Wausau. Rhonda Treml-Knebel, who runs the operation alongside Bill Knebel, has been working with the breed for close to two decades after an initial encounter with the cattle left a lasting impression.
The farm maintains a small herd of five milking Normandes, along with youngstock and bulls, and actively markets genetics from those animals. Milk from the herd is used on the farm and shared with local dog breeders as pet milk, while beef is also marketed from their animals. Those looking for Normande cattle for sale in Wisconsin will find that Howling Oaks has placed cattle and embryos with buyers across the country.
Treml-Knebel is a co-founder of the U.S. Normande Organization, established in 2014 to provide internationally recognized registrations for Normande semen and embryo marketing. She has also served as secretary of the North American Normande Association and has represented U.S. Normande breeders at breed events internationally. The herd at Howling Oaks has been shown at national Normande breed shows, where animals carrying the farm's prefix have earned recognition in the show ring.
