Goldens & Miniaussieswithfinesse is a Chicago, Illinois program run by Addy and Rosa Avalos, raising golden retrievers and miniature American shepherds out of their family home on the North Shore of the greater Chicago area.

Addy, a Chicago firefighter and U.S. Marine veteran, and Rosa, a fellow Marine veteran, came to breeding after their own experiences with puppies that arrived without adequate health screening or early socialization. That background shapes how the program is run today.

All golden retriever and miniature American shepherd adults are OFA and PennHIP certified, and the miniature American shepherd sires used in the program are genetically cleared for breed-specific variants and OFA tested for eyes, hips, elbows, cardiac function, and dentition. Puppies are raised inside the home as full family members and are never left unsupervised. The program follows the BadAss Breeder curriculum, a structured approach to early neurological stimulation and intentional handling designed to build confidence in young dogs. Starting around five and a half weeks, puppies are introduced to outdoor surfaces including turf, rubber mulch, cement, stairs, and climbing structures, along with a noise desensitization protocol covering a wide range of real-world sounds.
