Gingery Chinese Cresteds, based in Ronkonkoma on Long Island, has been breeding Chinese cresteds since the late 1970s, making it one of the longest-running programs of its kind in New York. Owner Arlene Butterklee holds AKC Breeder of Merit status and the AKC Bred By Exhibitor Gold Level Best Breeder Award, and her dogs have earned Best in Show titles in both AKC and UKC competition, along with Best of Breed, Best of Opposite Sex, and Award of Merit wins at the Westminster Kennel Club show in New York City.

The program produces both varieties of the Chinese crested, hairless and powderpuff, in all colors, with all dogs home-bred, home-raised, and health-tested. Butterklee follows a notably careful selection approach, waiting until dogs are at least four or five years old before breeding them and evaluating a sire's offspring for a minimum of three years before using him again. Gingery dogs have competed across a wide range of disciplines, including conformation, obedience, agility, rally, weight pull, lure coursing, and flyball, and the kennel counts among its milestones producing the first Canadian obedience trial champion in the breed. Löwchen are also part of the program, with Gingery-bred löwchen having earned major points and wins on the AKC show circuit. Ronkonkoma sits roughly an hour from midtown Manhattan, placing the kennel within easy reach of much of the New York metropolitan area.
