Franklin Ridge Farm
Franklin Ridge Farm has been raising Katahdin hair sheep in Gate City, Virginia since 2019, making it one of the longer-running Katahdin sheep programs in the Scott County area of far Southwest Virginia, roughly an hour south of Kingsport, Tennessee.
Started by Shannon and Jerri Anna Musick, the farm sits on about 30 acres of pasture that has been in the family for generations. Their children have since joined the operation and manage their own flocks on the property as well, giving Franklin Ridge a genuinely multigenerational character.
The program runs primarily as a pasture-based system with rotational grazing, supplementing feed for ewes during lambing to support milk production and overall health. The registered flock draws from well-regarded bloodlines, including stock from Hunt Road Katahdin, Stable Rock Katahdin, Grandpa's Farm Katahdin, and Gingerich Family Farm.
Franklin Ridge carries memberships in Katahdin Hair Sheep International (KHSI), the Coalfield Sheep Association, and the Eastern Alliance for Production Katahdins, and uses National Sheep Improvement Program metrics to guide ongoing flock improvement. Both registered and commercial Katahdin sheep are available from this Virginia operation.
