Eshod Farm Ray Dohse And Kim Trafton

Eshod Farm raises English cocker spaniels, German shorthaired pointers, and Irish setters in Searsmont, Maine, a rural community in Waldo County about an hour east of Bangor. Kim Trafton, who now runs the program, has spent more than three decades as a professional dog trainer, with roots in retrievers before expanding into pointing breeds and spaniels.

The farm and kennel were established in 1973, giving the program a long track record in the Maine bird dog community. Kim's training background spans AKC and UKC hunt tests, obedience trials, and field competition, and she has earned national wins and field champions over the course of her career. She handles all breeding, whelping, and raising of litters on the property.

The English cocker spaniels at Eshod Farm are kept as working dogs alongside the pointing breeds, used as flushers during hunts and to proof the competition gun dogs. Puppies have gone on to compete in obedience and agility as well as hunt in the field, reflecting the program's emphasis on versatility. Litters are raised in the home, AKC registered, and socialized from an early age. The German shorthaired pointer and Irish setter programs round out a kennel with deep ties to upland bird hunting in coastal Maine.
