Rippe Gelbvieh, operated by Dustin Rippe out of Hubbell, Nebraska, has been producing registered Gelbvieh cattle with a firm focus on the commercial cow-calf market since the program's founding in 1984. Situated in south-central Nebraska, the operation is roughly an hour southwest of Lincoln and draws customers from across the region looking for Gelbvieh bulls for sale in Nebraska and beyond.

The program was built from the ground up on commercial industry roots, starting with a set of Gelbvieh-based commercial cows and a pair of bulls acquired at the All American Gelbvieh sale in Kearney. From the beginning, the emphasis has been on traits that directly affect a commercial producer's bottom line, particularly pounds of calf weaned per cow exposed. Beginning in the mid-2000s, the operation incorporated ultrasound data collection and multi-trait genetic testing to sharpen selection decisions, and individual weights are recorded at birth, weaning, and yearling to build higher-accuracy EPDs than most seedstock producers can offer.

A distinct feature of the Rippe program is how the cowherd is managed. Cows are kept in conditions that mirror real-world commercial operations as closely as possible, and a moderate-framed female that can maintain condition and breed back without extra inputs has been a deliberate goal since 2005. At weaning, cows are weighed and percent of body weight weaned is calculated, keeping the focus on functional efficiency over generation after generation.
