Chyscott Scottish Terriers & Whippets

Chyscott Scottish Terriers & Whippets has been a working kennel on the high plains of Cheyenne, Wyoming since 1975, when founder Larae Shafer received a Scottish terrier as a wedding gift and built a breeding program from there. The kennel is a family operation, now run by Larae alongside her two daughters, Krissy Simmons and Whitney Shafer, both of whom grew up raising and showing dogs alongside their mother.

On the Scottish terrier side, the program has produced over 25 AKC champions, along with National, Regional, and Group-winning Scotties. Performance titles in agility, obedience, and earthdog also trace back to Chyscott lines. Quality, health, and temperament are the program's stated priorities across all litters, and all dogs are hand-raised in the home. The program holds AKC Breeder of Merit status and maintains memberships in both the Scottish Terrier Club of America and the Scottish Terrier Club of Greater Denver.

Whitney's whippet program grew out of her early years in Junior Showmanship, and the kennel is situated about 100 miles north of Denver, making it accessible to families across the broader Front Range corridor. Health testing is a consistent part of both breed programs at Chyscott.
