Chinookarch

Chinook Arch Bengals breeds TICA-registered bengal cats in Cremona, Alberta, a small town about an hour northwest of Calgary in the foothills of Mountain View County. The cattery is run by Misty Buchanan, who operates it out of her home on a working cattle ranch.

Because the cattery is home-based, the breeding cats live as family pets rather than in a separate facility. Kittens are raised alongside the everyday rhythms of a busy household, which helps them grow comfortable with typical household sounds before transitioning to their new homes. All kittens are spayed or neutered prior to leaving and are kept for at least 13 to 14 weeks to allow for proper weaning, socialization, and litter training.

Health testing is a core part of the program. Breeding cats are genetically screened for PK-Def (Pyruvate Kinase Deficiency) and PRA-b (Progressive Retinal Atrophy), and are tested negative for FeLV and FIV. Because no genetic test exists for HCM (Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy), breeding cats are examined by a board-certified cardiologist on a recurring basis. Misty also participates in TICA cat shows to deepen her understanding of the bengal breed standard and apply it to her breeding decisions. Families looking for bengal kittens in Alberta, Canada will find a program oriented around well-socialized, health-tested kittens placed in pet homes.
