Cave Creek Cattle

Cave Creek Cattle operates a registered Gelbvieh seedstock operation in Charlotte, Tennessee, roughly 35 miles northwest of Nashville. Jeff Proctor runs the program on a 250-acre farm, the majority of which has been in the family for more than four generations.

Established in 2014, the operation focuses on purebred Gelbvieh cattle along with a selection of high-percentage Balancer cattle, serving both seedstock and commercial producers. The herd is built around multiple generations of artificial insemination and embryo transfer genetics, with each generation evaluated against the last. To keep quality high, all animals are DNA tested to verify parentage and improve EPD accuracy, and calves are tested for horned/polled status and coat color at birth, then weighed and measured at birth, weaning, and yearling.

Fertility is central to the selection process. Each female is artificially inseminated once and then exposed to a bull for a defined 60-day window; open females are culled without exception. Animals showing disposition, structural, or performance concerns are identified and removed from the program. Cave Creek keeps the operation intentionally small so that Jeff can stay personally involved in every aspect of the farm, making it a source for Gelbvieh cattle in Tennessee where close individual attention to each animal is part of the standard process.
