Buena Vida Cattle

Buena Vida Cattle raises purebred Santa Gertrudis cattle on its ranch in Kingsbury, Texas, southeast of San Antonio in the heart of the Texas Hill Country. The operation was established in 2015, though the family's involvement with the Santa Gertrudis breed stretches back decades before that.

Owner Heather Blewett grew up showing cattle across Texas, with her heart always set on Santa Gertrudis heifers, and many of her early show animals came from well-known South Texas herds including Chapparosa Ranches and the Amy Alexander herd. Heather and Kevin Blewett now run the operation together, raising purebred Santa Gertrudis cattle on the Kingsbury ranch.

The herd has grown to around 85 head of purebred cattle from what began as roughly a dozen retired show heifers. Since 2015, the focus has been on building a strong female base through strategic donor purchases and developing superior maternal genetics, which has in turn shaped a well-regarded bull battery. The guiding principle across the herd is quality over quantity, and the operation takes particular pride in its showring accomplishments with bred-and-owned females and bulls.
