Bob Shanahan

Bob Shanahan breeds Percheron horses in Mechanicsburg, OH, serving Champaign County and the Columbus area. His family has worked with draft horses for over fifteen years, and he maintains membership in the Percheron Horse Association of America. Stallions and mares are tested for common equine health issues, including soundness exams and dental checks, before joining the breeding program.

Young stock grow up in pasture-based environments with daily handling that introduces them to basic ground manners and social grouping. On-site foaling stalls are monitored round-the-clock to ensure a calm environment for mares and newborns. Bob leans on traditional farm practices, rotating pastures to support soil health and offering mineral-supplemented hay through the winter months. The farm’s gentle giants often find work in parades, therapy programs and farm demonstrations, and several of his horses have gone on to win breed shows at the state fair level.
