Anamacara Irish Setters

Anamacara Irish Setters has been raising Irish setters in Columbus, Wisconsin, near Madison, since 1969, when Gail and John Jackson brought home their first setter with field and bench heritage. What started as a love of companions and obedience work gradually grew into a multi-generational show and breeding program spanning more than five decades.

The kennel name draws from the Gaelic phrase meaning "soul friend," and that spirit carries through into how the program is run. Daughter Tami was raised with Irish setters and carries the tradition forward, while a third generation is now beginning its own involvement with the breed. Together, the family has produced generations of breeder and owner-handled AKC and UKC champions, and Anamacara dogs have collectively earned more than 175 titles across conformation, obedience, rally, agility, and hunt test disciplines.

The program's selection focus centers on correctly structured, powerful-moving dogs that reflect the breed standard — animals capable of working in the field and settling in as house dogs and family companions. The family places a strong emphasis on health history and litter consistency, and is active in the Irish Setter Club of America, the Milwaukee Irish Setter Club, and Badger Kennel Club.
