Unknown Morph
An unknown morph western clawed frog is a tropical clawed frog whose color genetics or original line are not known. It may look wild type, albino, or intermediate, but appearance alone does not always reveal recessive traits or past crosses between laboratory and hobby lines. The label is useful when records were lost, animals came from a mixed group, or a rescue cannot verify what was bred.
Treat the frog as Xenopus tropicalis first and as a morph question second. Stable warm water, gentle filtration, secure covers, and appropriately sized meaty foods matter more than the label on the tank. For breeding projects, keep unknown-morph frogs separate from established lines until their offspring and history are understood, and describe any young honestly so future keepers do not confuse them with documented albino or wild type strains.
