Nigerian A
The Nigerian A western clawed frog is a research stock of Xenopus tropicalis traced to Nigerian-origin animals, using A as a colony or line designation rather than a show breed name. It belongs to the western clawed frog, a small, tongue-less, fully aquatic amphibian from West Africa. Most Nigerian A frogs are managed as wild-type unless a separate albino or mutant marker is documented. They have the species' streamlined body, clawed hind toes, lateral-line sensory system, and mottled brown or olive coloration that provides camouflage in shallow freshwater habitats.
Nigerian A stock is most relevant to laboratories and breeding colonies that need known genetic background for developmental biology, genomics, or toxicology work. Colony managers usually keep line records, separate it from other Xenopus tropicalis stocks, and quarantine new animals to reduce pathogen risk. Care requires stable warm water, controlled water chemistry, secure tanks, and feeding that avoids fouling the system. Breeding is normally scheduled and documented rather than casual, and surplus animals should never be released outside contained facilities or lawful amphibian programs.
