Unclassified Morph

An unclassified morph western clawed frog is a Xenopus tropicalis that has not been assigned to a named color or pattern line. The species, also called the tropical clawed frog, is a small fully aquatic frog from West Africa and a long-used research animal because of its compact, diploid genome. Wild type frogs are usually olive to brown with darker mottling, while albino lines lack normal dark pigment; an unclassified label simply means the visible trait or genetic background has not been sorted.

Care is the same as for other western clawed frogs: warm, clean, dechlorinated freshwater, a tight lid, smooth shelters, and foods suited to an aquatic carnivore. Fine sand or bare-bottom tanks are safer than swallowable gravel. Anyone breeding these frogs should record parentage and appearance, especially if albino or wild type offspring may appear, and should avoid selling or placing animals as a named morph without evidence.

Colors: Albino, Wild Type
