The Senegal Parrot (Poicephalus senegalus) is a medium-sized parrot native to the woodlands and savannas of West Africa. Renowned for their playful nature and striking appearance, these birds have a vibrant plumage marked by a predominantly green body, a distinctive yellow chest, and a grey head. Adults typically measure around 23 centimeters (9 inches) and weigh between 120 to 170 grams (4.2 to 6 ounces).

Their eyes are a striking orange or yellow, which adds to their vivid appearance. Senegal Parrots are known for their intelligence and ability to mimic sounds, including human speech, although their vocabulary might not be as extensive as some larger parrot species. They are social creatures that form strong bonds with their human companions, making them popular pets. In the wild, they are part of large flocks that forage for seeds, fruits, and occasionally insects. Due to habitat loss and capture for the pet trade, they have experienced population pressures, although they remain relatively common compared to other parrot species.

With proper care and enrichment, Senegal Parrots can live up to 30 years in captivity, showcasing their unique personalities and maintaining their reputation as charming, interactive, and loyal avian companions.
