Unknown Breed
A Senegal parrot listed as unknown breed is a bird whose species is known but whose subspecies, mutation status, or breeder background has not been confirmed. Senegal parrots are not divided into domestic breeds in the way dogs or livestock are; aviculturists may instead track regional forms, color mutations, and family lines. The normal bird is green with a gray head and a yellow or orange chest and belly, while pied markings may appear in some captive lines.
This label is common in rescue intake, older private collections, and sales where paperwork was incomplete. It should not be treated as a fault, but it does limit how confidently the bird can be used in structured breeding. Caretakers should focus on diet history, veterinary checks, DNA sexing when needed, and behavior around hands and other birds. Good housing includes space for climbing, fresh branches to chew, and a stable daily routine that keeps this intelligent Poicephalus engaged.
