Crossbred

A crossbred Senegal parrot is usually a Poicephalus senegalus whose background includes mixed subspecies, color lines, or breeder strains rather than a formal breed. True interspecies Poicephalus hybrids are uncommon and should be identified separately when known. Normal Senegal parrots have a gray head, green back and wings, and a yellow to orange belly patch that forms a vest-like triangle; pied birds show irregular pale or yellow areas. The species is native to West African savannas, woodland edges, and cultivated areas.

Crossbred status does not change the bird's basic care needs, but it matters for honest sales and breeding decisions. Senegal parrots are compact, strong-beaked birds that need a secure cage, daily activity outside the cage, foraging toys, and a diet not based only on seed. They can be steady companions when socialized well, yet many become choosy about handling as adults. Pairings meant to preserve locality or subspecies type should avoid birds with unclear crossbred ancestry.
