Unknown Variety
An unknown variety ram cichlid is a Mikrogeophagus ramirezi whose color or fin-line background was not supplied or cannot be verified. The label is common for rehomed fish, mixed dealer shipments, and juveniles that have not yet developed full adult color. It should not be read as a separate breed; it only means the fish cannot confidently be called electric blue, gold, balloon, long-fin, wild-type, or another recognized hobby variety.
For aquarists, an unknown variety can make an attractive pet or breeding fish if selected carefully, but expectations for offspring should stay modest. Rams need warm, stable aquariums with gentle filtration and clean, fine substrate they can sift while foraging. Because many are sensitive after shipping, quarantine is useful before adding them to an established community. If a pair spawns, both adults may guard eggs and fry, yet poor water quality or stress often leads to failed broods.
