Unclassified Variety
An unclassified variety ram cichlid is a ram cichlid not assigned to a recognized aquarium variety such as German blue, gold, electric blue, balloon, or long-fin. The fish may be close to wild-type in pattern, may be a domestic blend, or may simply have lacked a reliable label when bred or imported. Mikrogeophagus ramirezi is naturally a compact dwarf cichlid with iridescent blue spangling, a dark body mark, red-orange accents, and strong pair behavior.
Care and value depend more on health and husbandry than on the missing variety name. This species is warm-water by aquarium standards, and chilled tanks, dirty substrates, or unstable water quickly show up as poor color and weak appetite. Keepers planning to breed unclassified rams should note the parents' appearance and avoid selling fry under a named variety unless the line breeds predictably. For community tanks, choose peaceful companions that will not outcompete them at feeding time.
