Gaditano Pouter
The Gaditano pouter is a Spanish buchón or pouter breed associated with Cádiz in Andalusia, where the word Gaditano refers to that local origin. It is selected for an inflated crop, proud carriage, and the expressive courtship style valued in Spanish pouter culture. Unlike heavy exhibition-only croppers, many Spanish pouters have a tradition of active loft display and controlled flying, though modern lines vary.
A Gaditano loft should allow movement, display, and safe exercise without letting birds wander into trouble. Breeders select for crop shape, head and beak character, wing carriage, temperament, and sound breathing. Feed should keep birds athletic rather than bloated, and pairs need stable nest areas because enthusiastic males can be restless around mates. Buyers should ask whether a family is bred for show, flight, or the older buchón working style.
