Crossbred
Crossbred masked lovebirds are birds with Agapornis personatus ancestry mixed with another lovebird species, rather than a recognized masked-lovebird breed. The masked lovebird, or yellow-collared lovebird, comes from East Africa and has a white eye ring, blackish mask, yellow collar, green body, and compact build. Captive birds also occur in blue, violet, lutino, albino, pied, white, and yellow-based mutations, so color alone does not prove purity. Crosses with other eye-ring lovebirds can produce blended face color and collar width.
These birds are managed as lovebirds first: active, strong-billed parrots that need flight space, shreddable enrichment, and careful pair introductions. Crossbred birds can be good companions, but they should not be sold or bred as pure masked lovebirds. Serious breeders keep pure species and color-mutation lines separate, while rescues and pet owners focus on temperament, health, safe housing, and honest labeling rather than exact ancestry.
