Unclassified Strain

An unclassified strain Japanese amberjack is a fish or production lot identified as Seriola quinqueradiata but not assigned to a named genetic line, hatchery family, or selective-breeding program. This label is common enough in farming, trade, or records where the species matters more than exact broodstock origin. Japanese amberjack should not be confused with greater amberjack or California yellowtail, which are different Seriola species.

This is a marine culture fish rather than a typical pet. Juveniles are commonly raised for food production in coastal net pens or land-based systems where water quality, disease prevention, vaccination practices, and stocking density are closely managed. For researchers and farms, an unclassified strain can still be useful, but it is less informative for growth trials, breeding comparisons, or traceability than a well-documented line.

Colors: Albino, Black, Blue, Brown, Gold, Gray, Green, Leucistic, Melanistic, Mottled, Orange, Piebald, Red, Silver, Spotted, Striped, White, Wild Type, Yellow
